TEFL Teacher Training Courses

Teaching English as a Foreign Language

Our TEFL course is the ideal induction course for prospective teachers of English to foreign students and helps you enter one of the most rewarding careers where you can work with people from all over the world. Our next course will be held over a period of 3 weeks from 10th April to 25th April 2019. This course is recognized by the ELT council.


Sessions will be held in the afternoon as follows:

Week 1: 10th, 11th, 12th April 1.00-5.00

Week 2: 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th April 1.00-6.00

Week 3: 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th April 1.00-6.00

In addition, a minimum of two hours of experienced teacher observation will be carried out during the weeks following the course by arrangement.



The cost is €150*, with no hidden fees (although we recommend one teaching methodology book which you might choose to buy). A deposit of €50.00 is payable on application for the course and is not refundable if the course is cancelled by you within two weeks of the start of the course. The balance is payable two weeks before the start of the course.

* IELS offers full TEFL sponsorship on the condition that:

- the participant works a minimum of 10 weeks at IELS from 1st July to 20th September 2019

- the participant passes the TEFL Course

- the participant is eligible to obtain an ELT Teaching Permit

** This TEFL Cert. Course is eligible for funding under the Training Pays Scheme. Applications for funding must be submitted at least 15 days before the start of the course. More information can be found on https://jobsplus.gov.mt/schemes-jobseekers/training-pays-scheme


Course participants should:

  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Have a matriculation standard of education
  • Possess an Advanced Level certificate in English of a recognised institution, or equivalent/comparable qualification or have passed the TELT exam set by the ELT Council. (The TELT exam is designed by the ELT Council to provide novice ELT teachers with a minimum language proficiency certification if the teacher does not possess an English A’ level. It consists of a written paper including grammar, lexis, phonology and writing.)
