Valletta Carnival Weekend 2017 February is the month bringing colours and life to our island. Carnival takes place on a traditional pattern. The owners of the coloured floats start preparing from a year before with a lack of restraint in spending money or using resources. The floats are then perched on lorries ready for the procession, children running around in fancy costumes and Malta’s main nightlife centre, Paceville, catching the late night carnival goers, most of which are still wearing their outrageous outfits. Various towns and villages across the island have their own festivities, however the main action always takes place in Valletta. Nadur in Gozo offers a multitude of masked and hooded creatures to throng the streets - creatures wearing all kinds of funny and grotesque costumes. The carnival week is a time when everybody let's go of the seriousness and enjoy the craziness. Archive
